OLE! See How Popular Businesswoman In Nigeria Stole $240,000 (Details)

Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye of the Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced a business woman, Taiwo Martins, to 10 years imprisonment on 11-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence and issuance of dud cheque to the tune of $240,000.
The convict was prosecuted alongside her company, Baal-Perazim Investment Limited, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, following receipt of a petition from a complainant, Sholari Olasunkami, on May 19, 2011.
Martins allegedly told the complainant that she could help him secure a credit facility of $65,000,000.00, if he could raise the sum of $300,000 to access it.
The complainant further alleged that he could only raise an initial sum of $240,000.00 out of the $300,000.
Martins allegedly became evasive after collecting the money.
The convict was said to have become suspicious after coming in contact with a publication, where a disclaimer was placed on the defendant by a company, Broad Gate Group Plc., warning members of the public not to do business with Bal-perazim Investment Limited.
Martins was later arrested by the EFCC.
In the course of the trial, the prosecuting counsel, Ayokunle Fayanju, called three witnesses, including Alex Ogoble, an operative of the EFCC, and tendered several documents as exhibits.
Justice Ipaye found Martins guilty and sentenced her to 10-years imprisonment on seven counts of obtaining by false pretense.
She was, however, discharged and acquitted on counts 8 to 11.
The judge also ordered the convict to restitute the sum of $240,000 to the victim.

Premier League! Chelsea Boss Antonio Conte Finally Speaks On His Future At The Club

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says it is his “intention, will and desire” to continue in his job for at least the remaining 18 months of his contract.
Italian Conte has been in charge at Stamford Bridge since the summer of 2016, and led the club to the Premier League title in his first season.
They currently sit fourth this term, 18 points behind leaders Manchester City.
On Friday, he again dismissed reports of a rift with the club’s owners, and insisted he was happy in his role.
“From the start of this season there have been a lot of speculation and rumours around me,” he said.
“The only thing I can tell you now is I still have 18 months of contract with Chelsea. My intention, my will, is to respect the contract.
“We signed a three-year contract. I think our desire is to continue our work.
“This season, the situation has always been the same, with a lot of pressure, and I don’t understand why, always around me. Maybe it is because this is Chelsea. This is the only answer I’m having.
“But the pressure is normal. When the situation is too calm, you risk being relaxed and losing the anger, the fire. I like to live with this pressure.”

Nigeria Will No Longer Exist If Buhari Wins Election In 2019’- Nwabueze

Elder statesman and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, has declared that Nigeria is a failed state under President Muhammadu Buhari.
Prof. Nwabueze also said Nigeria may become extinct if he is re-elected in 2019.
The erudite scholar noted that Nigeria, under the Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC), government had failed to perform the major role expected of a state which is to ensure the security and welfare of the citizenry.
Nwabueze made the declaration in a paper entitled ‘Nigeria under president Buhari is categorised as a failed state by an internationally-recognised agency’.
“By all internationally relevant and accepted indices and indicators, and judged by the reality on the ground, Nigeria is justifiably categorised as a failed state, now ranked 15th among the ‘worst failed’ states in the world.
“If president Buhari is given a second term in office, God forbid that he should ever get a second term, Nigeria will cease to exist, except in the sense in which Zaire, under (late) Mobutu (Sese Seko) existed. That is as an idea without an existential content, a state existing only in name or the map as a mere geographical expression,” he said.
Nwabueze, however, added that there was hope for Nigeria, if there was a change in leadership.
“I believe, however, that the country can be made to work again, as it was doing before, and to become a great nation it is destined to be, and a leading star in the affairs of the African continent and, indeed, the world. But, for that to happen, there has to be a change of leadership.”
“It is gratifying that the Boko Haram insurgents have been dislodged from the areas over which they took control, but, it is equally sad that they still continue to kill, maim and brutalise large numbers of people and to destroy properties, resulting in the displacement of thousands from their homes.
“Following on the heels of the Boko Haram atrocities is the Fulani herdsmen menace. It started in the form of farmers’ herdsmen clashes but has now developed into a scary dimension,” known to be as bloody and murderous and atrocious as Boko Haram insurgency.
“In Benue State, in particular, it has been a long chain of killings, dating back to 2013. In that year alone, Benue recorded eight attacks in villages resulting in deaths. There were 16 attacks in 2014, eight in 2015, the same number in 2016, and five in 2017.
“The number of deaths is put at about 3,000 across the country. The method of attack, which is not any different from the one applied by Boko Haram insurgents, includes cutting open the stomach, beheading, slitting the throat, suicide bombing, surrounding villages and opening fire on them while asleep, etc.
“The method of attack is so barbaric, so much so as to be unimaginable in 21st century Nigeria. What is shocking is the lethargic posture of the Federal Government, especially as the perpetrators of the dastardly acts are identifiable”, he said.

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho said his decision to take off midfielder Paul Pogba against Tottenham was “tactical.”
Tottenham defeated Mourinho’s side at Wembley with Christian Eriksen capitalising on some poor defending to put the hosts ahead in the 11th minute.
United defender, Phil Jones’ own goal doubled Spurs’ advantage and Mourinho took the surprising decision to substitute Pogba for Marouane Fellaini midway through the second half when United were chasing a goal.
It’s the first time that Pogba has been taken off by Mourinho in a league game since he rejoined the club for £89m from Juventus.
Asked if Pogba had sustained an injury, Mourinho said, “No, no, It was just to change for Fellaini.
“We had to try different qualities with different players.”
On Alexis Sanchez who was making his Premier League debut for United, Mourinho added, “he worked hard but the transformation the game had meant the game was not for him.
“In the second half I tried to give him a position where he could be closer to Lukaku but then he was dropping too much to organise.
“But he gave everything with a good effort and it’s a good feeling for me to know that he is available with this spirit.”
